NV in DC!

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! We spent ours bidding summer farewell on the East Coast. Troy and I were finally reunited after his first away rotation for school. We started our weekend in Pennsylvania and then drove to DC. We had so much fun site seeing and exploring a new city! (Although Troy has been there a couple times prior-it was my first) We couldn't possibly fit everything into one long weekend but we sure did try! We stayed in an area called Foggy Bottom. It was the perfect location to everything we did/everywhere we went. We rented bikes and rode them through the National Mall and Downtown DC. Even in the 90+ degrees and humidity, it was a blast! I absolutely LOVED Georgetown! It's such a cute area. The monuments were amazing, Lincoln was my favorite especially at night. A favorite part of the weekend was getting caught in a summer rainstorm in Georgetown- with no umbrellas, of course! We took refuge in Sprinkles Cupcakes, so naturally we had to do a taste comparison to Georgetown Cupcake. And the verdict is... GEORGETOWN CUPAKE for the win!! We finally got umbrellas and visited Honest Abe again, (like I said, amazing at night) It's safe to say we had a perfect weekend! I'm sad it's over but happy to be back in the dry heat and home to Mia and Ruby:)

Seattle Lovin'

Troy is officially done with his third year of med school! WHOOO! Naturally, we had to celebrate and have some fun! So, this was a perfect time to visit my in-laws in Seattle and have a little weekend get-away. They have been living there about six months now and are loving it and I can see why! We managed to squeeze a lot into the short weekend, doing both local and tourist things. It was nice to get out of the 110 degrees of Vegas and cool off in the Pacific Northwest. We had typical Seattle weather which is definitely a change for us but it was awesome! I felt relaxed the entire time. It’s so cozy there under the clouds. Some of our tourist adventures included: a cruise tour of Lake Washington, Pike’s Market Place, going to the first Starbucks, the Space Needle and the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. (we also saw Dale Chihuly’s glass house on the cruise tour, since it’s made of glass, people can see him bathing!) Seattle is very liberal and culturally diverse, such a neat city and SO green! There are so many amazing restaurants and bars everywhere. All we did was eat and drink and walk! I’m exhausted! My in-laws live in the University district. I loved their little neighborhood and seeing what they do on the daily (I especially loved their rooftop deck-of course I insisted we make s’mores in the fire pit and drink margs up there) I know this won’t be our last trip to Seattle and I already can’t wait to go back!

We in Miami!

Our honeymoon was right after our wedding in April. We went to South Beach in Miami Florida. I am already craving another beach getaway. Although, I am no Miami expert, being there only one short week, I wanted to share some of my favorite things about our honeymoon. We stayed at the Marriott South Beach. Our boutique hotel was adorable and right on the beach. We went to the beach everyday and then would go out on the town every night. We wanted to experience everything! Although we did get to relax, it seems like we were always on the go. We ate local Cuban food, and got cortaditos everyday! That Cuban coffee is legit! We explored all of Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road Mall, Collins Avenue and the surrounding area, went Jet skiling in the bay and saw all the famous celebrity houses and swam in the marina. One of my favorite places was this amazing little mojito bar- the best mojitos EVER! During dinner one night the Heat game was on, I mentioned that would have been cool to go. We thought why not just check the schedule and it turns out they had a home game our last night in town! This was my first NBA game and it was a blast! I've talked to other people who have gone to professional basketball games and they don't seem to be as wild as Heat games. There was a DJ, strobe light and percussion- such a party. I don't know how the players concentrate! South Beach reminds me a lot of Southern California but downtown Miami, "Bayside" which is just on the other side of the bridge, well that is like a whole different world. Everyone looks like the Kardashians! I think we got a great taste of the city and did it all. I absolutely loved Miami, it was an amazing trip, we didn't want to leave. On our last morning we woke up early to get some more Miami Beach time for the last time. Since we were packed we thought why not get some margs while we savor the last bit of Florida air. Literally they were calling our names when our car arrived to take us to the airport, "Mr. and Mrs. Shields, your ride is here" NOOOOO I wanted to cry! We are already planning our anniversary trip and little weekends in between. I can't wait to keep exploring the world with my hubby:)
